The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is the industry regulator for advertising in New Zealand. The ASA sets the standards for responsible advertising through its advertising codes, and it runs a free-to-consumer complaints process. The Communications Council is a founding Member of the ASA.
The ASA also offers AdHelp, which is a user-pays service for the advertising industry where you can ask a question and seek information from the ASA regarding compliance. You can find out more about AdHelp on the ASA’s website.
The ASA’s Decisions Database has decisions from 2015 and many provide precedent guidance on how the Complaints Board interprets the advertising codes.
The ASA also publishes the annual Advertising Industry Turnover table, available here
