Strategic Planning Lab - Class of 2022

Posted 2 August 2022.

39 participants from 19 agencies successfully completed this year’s Comms Council Strategic Planning Lab Course. Led by Rupert Price, Chief Strategy Officer, DDB, the workshop ran over non-consecutive days from the end of May to July, with only a little reshuffling required for the covid curveballs!

The remodeled course, designed to amplify the strategic thinking abilities of advertising and marketing professionals, was made up of 9 modules that took participants through the entire strategic process providing a strong grounding in the core concepts that underpin strategic thinking in today’s communication market.

Through provocative presentations from leading industry experts, they were exposed to the thinking behind some of New Zealand’s most well-known marketing success stories, told by the people responsible for the thinking.

But it wasn‘t all sitting back and listing to the experts, the participants were set an assignment, based on a real brief from Triton Hearing, where they were challenged to put the learnings from the course into action to define an audience, insight, and proposition – detailing how they would execute this over a 5-year plan. Lucy Rei, Head of Marketing at Triton Hearing joined Rupert and Simon Lendrum from the comms council in judging the presentations.

Lucy Rei said “I was really impressed with the clear structure and tools they all demonstrated in their presentation to work through a business challenge to develop a clear, considered, insight-driven strategy”.

Dates for next year’s course will be announced before the end of 2022.
