CAANZ PREScom Speaker Series 2015 - Who’s buying? The future of content commercialisation in NZ
Posted 21 September 2015.
The October CAANZ PREScom Champion Speaker Series presents NZ’s leading journalists, commentators and industry heads, discussing the changing face of media and their response to the commercialisation and commoditisation of content.
The breakfast event, at Kensington Swan Board Room, Auckland on Wednesday 21st October, will feature speakers renowned in their respective fields:
• Tim Murphy, former editor-in-chief of the New Zealand Herald, former chair of the national Media Freedom Committee and executive committee member of the Press Council;
• Ellen Read, National Business Editor, Fairfax Media NZ;
• Duncan Greive, freelance journalist and editor of culture website The Spinoff;
• Simon Wilson, Metro editor; and
• Alana O’Neill, Head of Integration, Mediaworks.
Each speaker will share their thoughts on commercial imperatives versus a purist approach, where the lines sit between earned and paid media, and the ramifications this has on agencies and their clients. The panel discussion will be MC’d by Ben Fahy, editor and associate publisher of NZ Marketing and stoppress.co.nz.
Megan Clark, Chair of the CAANZ PREScom, says the purpose of the event is to gain some insight on how media operators balance providing news with the requirement for revenue.
“It’s a stellar line up of speakers who’ve worked across the various platforms, experiencing the changes and the commercialisation of content,” says Megan. “It will be an interesting debate across traditional versus non-traditional and the impact of this on brand communications.”
CAANZ gratefully acknowledges Kensington Swan Lawyers for their support.
