Meet the Convenor of the 2021 Beacon Awards in association with oOh!media

​We are pleased to announce that Simon Lendrum will be this year’s Convenor of Judges for the 2021 Beacon Awards in association with oOh!media for the THIRD time!

Simon is an experienced business leader, spending the last decade leading the New Zealand arm of a global professional services company. He is a marketing services expert, and has provided strategic advice to many of the world’s biggest brands, including Ford, BP, Z, Contact Energy, Unilever, Coca-Cola, Transpower & Trade Me, successfully taking brands and products to market.

With 25 years of experience in advertising and marketing who, in that time, worked across BMP DDB, Ogilvy and at J. Walter Thompson New Zealand where he was Managing Director for nine years, he is now developing a SaaS product aimed at professional services firms, and in parallel, providing strategic advisory to businesses and boards.

Many of you also know Simon from his time as President of the Comms Council from 2014 to 2016.

He is also a self proclaimed ‘Man who has occasional thoughts’ according to his twitter bio where he covers all bases of pop-culture, funny observations, and quick-wit which are often matched in his works where “advertising is culture and it feeds off culture”. His observations and theories surrounding the 2016 Presidential Election of Donald Trump give poignant insight into how he approaches marketing.

“We all know this, but so often ignore it. In marketing, we get hung up on the detail, on the channel, and on trying to appeal to everyone. But if we tap into emotion the rest is academic. We know fizzy drinks have loads of sugar, but we love the taste. We know smoking and drinking are bad for us, but they make the end of a day complete. We know Trump’s an asshole, but he might just make life better. Sometimes logic doesn’t come into it.”
